What the heck is a Fusion?
Fusion is a technique created by the Metamoru-jin and Kaioshin. The technique involves two people that do a little dance in order to fuse, or they use a pair of sacred earrings. Certain conditions have to be met in order to do this technique though. I'll explain to you in some degree of detail in just how these two techniques differ, how they are done, and what's required to do it.
Fusion: What's the difference?
There're two types of fusion (not counting Namekian). The Dance Fusion and Potara Fusion. These two have the same general effect, but differ in many ways. I'll describe the techniques and then sight the differences for you.
Let's start with the Dance fusion. The way the dance fusion is done is very simple, yet very complex. The two people to be fused must stand across from each other about 6-8 feet apart. They must both face forward. When doing the dance, they must mirror the other person's actions right down to the smallest detail. Knees bent, one pointing away and one in towards the other person. Take 4 steps inward while saying "Fuuuu-". Stand on one leg, other leg's knee bent inward towards the other person with your arms and pointer finger pointing away from the other person STILL LOOKING FORWARD. When you do that last movement, it's done quickly while saying "-sion!". Next and final, both feet on the ground, bring the arms forward with pointers extended and make them touch the other person's fingers. Have the arm most away from the other person arch over your head and the one in towards him below or on the line of your breastplate, elbow and forearm making almost a V-shape. Arch your back inwards a bit and yells "HA!". If the pinky finger is extended or something else like that is messed up, the fusion will be defective and the new warrior will be horribly worse than the previous two warriors. But when the dance is done correctly, you get a nearly unbeatable super fighter. This great new fighter only lasts for 30 minutes, however, and they must wait approximately one hour to fuse again. Also, the new fighter has new clothing. White pants and a orange/black vest.
Now on to the Potara, or earring, fusion. This fusion is much simpler than the dance mainly because of the fact that no dance is required. All the warriors need to do is take the Potara earrings, stick them on opposing ears (Ex. Son Goku puts his on his left ear, Vegeta puts his on his right), and let the magic happen. The two fighters are pulled into some point between them and they collide with each other. This gets you a super warrior without any possible defects. The fused fighter is pretty much an ultimate being with no equal. But there is a downside to this fusion, however. It lasts forever. It cannot be broken apart (though Super Buu's stomach says otherwise). This type of fusion can only be used once in an entire lifetime, however. The Potara fused product also has somewhat new clothes. Rather than giving you the white pants and orange/black vest, it would appear that they two fighters clothes are combined, such as Vegetto: Vegeta's clothes = blue with white boots and gloves. Son Goku's clothes = Orange overalls with blue shirt. In this case, we keep the white gloves and boots and invert Son Goku's outfit, putting blue on the outside and orange on the inside.
The differences between these two warriors are very simple. The most obvious being that the dance fusion and Potara fusion give you different fighters. Take Son Goku and Vegeta, for example. When they dance fuse they get Gogeta, but when they Potara fuse they get Vegetto. Another difference is clothing. Dance fused people have white pants and a black/orange vest while the Potara fused people have the clothes of the two people mixed and combined. The facial appearance of the two is also different. Son Goku and Vegeta's fusions are a good example. Gogeta looks more like Son Goku, while Vegetto looks more like Vegeta. Also, there're differences in the time the fusion lasts. Dance fusions last for 30 minutes, but Potara fusions last forever.
What are the requirements?
Well, there're seperate requirement for each of the fusions. I'll list them off for you. I'll start with dance fusion:
The two warriors must be equal in strength.
They must be virtually the same in size.
They must perform the Fusion Dance perfectly.
Their fusion dances must mirror each other perfectly.
It has been at least an hour since the last fusion.
Those're the big requirements for the Dance fusion, but what about the Potara fusion? The Potara fusion really isn't picky about who fuses with it. Here're the requirements for the Potara fusion:
They must wear the Potara earrings on opposing ears.
They must not have ever done the Potara fusion before in their lives.
If you meet those requirements, you're eligible for a Potara fusion. If you meet the requirements above the Potara requirements, you're eligible for a Dance fusion.
What are the fusion names?
Here's a list of fused characters that appear in DBZ:
